Designer Working Remote in Slovenia
Cohere Designer Katherine works remotely from Slovenia and gathers inspiration.
Over the course of a month, Katherine immersed herself in the local creative and arts scene working remotely while experiencing the daily nuances that make an area unique. She assembled her top picks for favorite places in the city to get creatively charged and re-inspired. Hvala!
Ferdinand Bar
Laidback staff, pleasing interiors, delicious drinks. Come during the day to people-watch while sipping on a refreshing matcha lemonade (picked out from their extensive and design-forward menus), or bring a friend here during the night for fun convos and good vibes.

DESIGN FORWARD MUSEUMS IN SLOVENIA
Love museums? Ljubljana is host to a great number of art museums, some of which fall under their comprehensive MGML museum system. Here’s a few of my favorites.
The Cukrarna Gallery serves up modern art in a well-designed and well-branded space (check out their great website!... as well as the gorgeous branding for their cafe)
The International Centre of Graphic Arts, located in a mansion in the beautiful Tivoli Park, hosts thoughtful exhibitions, talks, & events.
A bit further up the hill is MGLC Švicarija, where artists reside; at an open house, you can listen to the artists speak about their work & process!
You can’t go anywhere in Ljubljana without witnessing the work of the architect Josef Plecnik. His residence at Plecnik House serves as an insight into the visionary master’s creative process and life.
JULIJA
Local cuisine, with an elevated farmhouse feel. Even the placemats add to the experience! Try one of the local specialties, handwritten on their chalkboards. Many amazing choices on their menu, including my pick: Idrian zlikrofi (traditional Slovenian dumplings) with karst pancetta and cep mushrooms. Add on a glass of Slovenian wine to pair!

NEUBAR
Cafe during the day, artisan cocktails during the night. All of this in a sunshine-filled lobby designed for coworking, which served as a nice change of pace to remote work from. Want a nicely furnished aparthotel for your stay? They offer that too.

HOSTEL CELICA
For those who want a uniquely bohemian experience, Hostel Celica answers the call. A former prison turned hostel, the rooms are filled with local artwork that transform the “cells” into works of art. If you’re not into sharing rooms with strangers, they have private rooms as well. Located in the colorful Metelkova Art Centre (which has its own distinct story), Celica regularly hosts events where you can meet other travelers as well as locals.
